My mom realised that if she wanted to see me and meet Hankyul she should better come over here visit us. For that mission she decided to hire my sister Marie-Loup as second in charge.
That’s how we start planning a trip for 4 persons in New Zealand. Of course, we didn’t want to plan too much because we love being surprised on the road and changing itinerary as we felt. We wanted to share as much as New Zealand as possible so they can understand why we love this country so much.
We decided the best option was to secure a motorhome rental in the first place and improvise most of the rest. Renting the motorhome has been quite stressful even though we started looking 6months early. As they visited end of January till end of February it is the high touristic season in NZ so better plan in advance. We were originally looking to rent a small 4 berth van but ended up with a motorhome rented to a particular through the platform Camplify.com. The budget was over our first idea, but it was a very good choice after all and made our trip very comfortable. We decided to do the first part of the trip with our car (north island) and then rent the motorhome for the second part (South Island). After that all we did was running after the sun and away from flooding, earthquakes and cyclones. Indeed, that period has been quite tough for New Zealand (with the passage of Tropical Cyclone Gabrielle, for example), and we have been extremely lucky in our itinerary.
It was a time cut off the usual routine with only focussing on spending quality time together, eating good food, discovering beautiful spots of NZ and playing games. A bit of an out of time experience even though we only had a limited time.

C’est ainsi que nous avons commencé à planifier un voyage pour 4 personnes en Nouvelle-Zélande. Bien sûr, nous ne voulions pas trop planifier car nous aimons être surpris sur la route et changer d’itinéraire selon nos envies. Nous voulions partager autant que possible la Nouvelle-Zélande afin qu’elles puissent comprendre pourquoi nous aimons tant ce pays.
Nous avons décidé que la meilleure option était de louer un camping-car en premier lieu et d’improviser la plupart du reste. La location du camping-car a été assez stressante, même si nous avons commencé à chercher 6 mois à l’avance. Comme elles venaient de fin janvier à fin février, c’est la haute saison touristique en Nouvelle-Zélande, il vaut mieux s’y prendre à l’avance. Nous cherchions à l’origine à louer un petit van 4 places mais nous avons finalement opté pour un camping-car loué à un particulier via la plateforme Camplify.com. Le budget était supérieur à notre première idée, mais c’était un très bon choix après tout et a rendu notre voyage très confortable. Nous avons décidé de faire la première partie du voyage avec notre voiture (île du Nord) puis de louer le camping-car pour la deuxième partie (île du Sud). Après cela, nous n’avons fait que courir après le soleil et loin des inondations, des tremblements de terre et des cyclones. En effet, cette période a été assez difficile pour la Nouvelle-Zélande (avec le passage du Cyclone tropical Gabrielle notemment), et nous avons été extrêmement chanceux dans notre itinéraire.
C’était une période coupée de la routine habituelle avec pour seul objectif de passer du temps de qualité ensemble, de manger de la bonne nourriture, de découvrir les beaux endroits de NZ et de jouer à des jeux. Une expérience un peu hors du temps, même si nous n’avions qu’un temps limité.
